The origin of the name Asrir:

The Ksar Asrir is without any doubt the oldest of Ferkla; probably it is more than thousand years old and it was the economical capital of the oasis until the middle of the 20.th century. It is composed of seven quarters that are separated by walls. In one of them lived the Jews. One of the mosques is supposed to be founded in the 11.th century by the Almoravids. The village is also famous for its pottery. The inhabitants belong to different Berber groups with sedentary tradition.
