Cooperation
The
people of El Khorbat have created the Association El Khorbat for the Integrated
Development (A.E.D.I.) that has carried out several projects dedicated to conserve the Ksar and to improve the living
conditions and the hygiene for its population. The projects count on the technical support and the economic help of
different international institutions.
- Female craft:
embroider of shawls (taharuit) and weaving rugs.
- Sometimes there are public festivals organized with music and theatre.
ALREADY FINISHED AND ONGOING PROJECTS FOR DEVELOPMENT
Dredge and reparation of the watering channel
The irrigation channel of El Khorbat, which wasn't used since 1990 because of the lack,
of maintenance, was completely repaired and cleaned out by the Association between 2004 and 2006, thanks to the financial help of
the Town Hall of Barberà del Vallès, Spain.
Restoration of the entrance of the Ksar Akedim
The monumental entrance of the Ksar El Khorbat Akedim was restored in 2004.
Construction of the Association premises
The buildings of Association A.E.D.I. were constructed between 2005 and 2006 inside
the Ksar El Khorbat Oujdid. They were built above ruins of an ancient house and in this way they contribute to the conservation
of the monumental group. They offer space to organize trainings and crafts.
Exhibition about Ferkla oasis
It is a travelling exposition that includes paintings of Rachid Bouskri and focuses
on the palm grove as the central topic; also there are antiquities and maps given by the Museum of the Oasis.
In June 2005 the exhibition was presented in the palace El Badi in
Marrakech, thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture.
In order to improve the living conditions and the hygiene inside the Ksar, the
Association caved a canalisation system in 2008 that leads the waste water to an aseptic sinkhole outside of the outer wall.
This project was funded by the College of technical Architects of Barcelona through the Catalan Association Al Karia.
The project funded by the College of technical Architects of Barcelona also included the paving of the streets in order to
avoid the dust when there are desert winds and the mud when it's raining.
Recollection of waste
The Association got a waist container from the City Council of Ferkla El Alia, but the Council doesn't empty it, so it's useless.
Therefore A.E.D.I. is looking for other solutions for the waste problem. Perhaps there can be organized lightweight containers that can
be dragged by mules or donkeys.
Restoration of the outer wall of the Ksar
In 2009 has been restored the outer wall of the Ksar
with a cover of clay and straw. This project is also funded by the College of technical Architects of Barcelona through the
Catalan Association Al Karia.
