 EL KHORBAT

The people of El Khorbat have created the Association El Khorbat for Integral Development (AEDI) that has several projects aimed at conserving the ksar and improving the living conditions and health of its population.


USUAL ACTIVITIES

- Literacy classes for women and preschool payed by Magòria school of Barcelona throught Al Karia catalan association.

- A computers hall offers connection to Internet.

- Women craft: embroidering shawls (taharuit) and weaving rugs.

- Popular celebrations with music and theatre.
 


REALISED AND CURRENT PROJECTS
 
Clearing and repairing of an irrigation canal

The irrigation canal in El Khorbat, that hasn’t worked since 1990, has been completely repaired and cleaned out this year (2004-2006).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Restoration of the entry of the ksar El Khorbat Akedim.

It was restored in 2004.

 

 

 

 

Construction of the Association premises

It has been constructed into the ksar El Khorbat Oujdid, utilizing a destructed house.

 

 

 

Ferkla oasis exposition

This is a traveling exposition with paintings by Rachid Bouskri. The paintings include scenes of the Ferkla oasis, ancient crafts and ksars, and the way of life in it.

In June 2005, there was a presentation at the El Badi palace in Marrakech.

A septic system for the Ksar

This is included in the project financed by the CAATB.

Restoration of the surrounding wall of the ksar

The last project is to restore the wall of the ksar to its original status to preserve the traditional style of the exterior of the ksar.  This project has the financial help of the CAATB of Barcelona.
